17-year wins the Youth Chess WC

A young Argentine girl won the world chess championship.

Candela Francisco Guecamburu, 17 years old, from Pilar, won this Sunday in the competition that took place in Mexico.

In the last game she defeated Bulgaria’s Beloslava Krasteva.

The player from Buenos Aires province became the first Argentine woman to win the world championship, after male victories in 1953, 1959 and 1992.

It is worth mentioning that Candela had already won the Americas tournament held last May in Havana, Cuba.
