Catholic Church voices concern RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

50% of Argentines are poor, government says

50% of Argentines fell below the poverty line.

This is according to a government report for the International Monetary Fund on Argentina's current situation.

According to the document, picked up today by local press, President Milei "received the worst economic, financial and social situation in our history".

The text also points out that while half of the population is poor, the rate reaches 60% in the case of children.

In the report, the Executive ratifies its intention to implement "an orthodox and ambitious stabilization plan to avoid the collapse of the economy".

The program is based, says the source, "on a public spending cut of approximately 5% this year, with temporary income measures to increase social assistance".

It is worth mentioning that among the cuts is included that of subsidies to public transportation, whose fare increases as of today in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires.

For example, the bus ticket increased this Tuesday from 76 to 270 pesos, about 2 dollars and 50 cents.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Church warned that "hundreds of thousands of families" have problems to "feed themselves well".

Through a communiqué, the Argentine Episcopal Conference expressed that "food cannot be an adjustment variable".

And demanded more help for community kitchens and social and religious institutions that serve the most vulnerable population.
