PERU

A communications control team from the Ministry of Transport and Communications reached the top of Huascaran hill in San Juan de Lurigancho and, after an hour's walk, managed to dismantle three illegal radio broadcasting sets, each of them valued at more than 10 thousand soles.

Two of the illegal radio stations had their studios in San Juan de Lurigancho and one in Comas. They are Radio Alegria, Radio La Poderosa and Radio Poder.

Upon arriving at the top, the team found two people trying to remove the transmitters to avoid seizure and when they saw the police they fled, according to official sources.

These illegal broadcasters usually look for remote hills to transmit and generate advertising.

ECUADOR

Radio Quito, the voice of the capital, marked its 81st anniversary and they assure they renewed the challenge of serving its loyal audience with vocation and professional dedication in radio journalism.

Radio Quito no longer operates on the short waves, where it was broadcast until a few years ago on the frequency of 4910 khz, in the tropical band of 60 meters. It currently broadcasts on 760 KHZ on AM.

Via its partnership with EcuadoRadio, the news brand aims at providing reliable and credible news to the audience. The first bulletins used to be written with material coming from its mother company, newspaper El Comercio.

This has been the identity mark of Radio Quito and its EcuadoRadio news programs, through which several generations of journalists have passed from the capital's radio broadcasting team.

Radio Quito's signal is now amplified with its sister station Platinum FM, reaching multiple sites and expanding its signal on the EcuadoRadio website and newspaper El Comercio.

Its radio drama plays were another feature of the station, and for all these reasons this is a flagship of radio broadcasting and national journalism in Ecuador.

UNITED STATES

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of broadcaster EWTN, which was marked last Sunday, August 15, we share some of this Christian station story.

This is a radio station that, like our very own RAE Argentina al Mundo, bet heavily on traditional shortwave transmissions as well as digital platforms.

On August 15, 1981, Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation launched EWTN from the garage of the house of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration in Irondale, Alabama, with approximately 20 employees.

Four years later, in 1985, a new television studio of approximately 600 square meters was built. In 1987, EWTN's programming was expanded to 24 hours, reaching 10 million subscribers.

Five years later, in 1992, the shortwave radio service was launched and in 1995 EWTN announced the launch of its first international television service for Latin America. In October of that year, it covered Pope St. John Paul II's visit to the United States live on television and radio in English and Spanish.

In 1996, the Catholic channel inaugurated a worldwide AM/FM radio service, and launched a television service targeting Europe.

Between January 21 and 25, 1998, it covered the visit of Pope John Paul II's with commentary in both English and Spanish. In December of that year, a satellite television service to Africa was launched.

On August 29 of the same year, the channel opened its first studio and office in the United Kingdom, near the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, north of London. And in 2019, EWTN launched ACI Africa, a Catholic news agency based in Nairobi, Kenya, which publishes information and content in English, French and Portuguese for the African continent.

Between March and April 2020, EWTN's audience across all platforms increased significantly during the coronavirus pandemic, as people began to turn to the network for spiritual support.

This past August 15, 2021, EWTN celebrated its 40th year of divulging the Gospel to the world.
