New law enacted in Argentina RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Alcohol level zero for drivers

The Argentinean government enacted the Zero Alcohol Law, which brings down alcohol permitted levels for drivers to zero.

The law is already in force on all national roads.

Similar rules already applied in 13 provinces and at least 50 municipalities.

"There are 4,000 fatal accidents per year in Argentina, a figure that hurts a lot, which has recently decreased, as today we are talking about 11 deaths per day, something that also chills the blood," said the Minister of Transport, Diego Giulano.

"It's not a question of prohibiting the consumption of alcohol...but you shouldn't drink when you drive," he concluded.

The provinces that already had zero tolerance for drinking when driving were Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Jujuy, Río Negro, Salta, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego, Tucumán, Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Chubut, La Rioja and Chaco.
