"A Miracle", many say in Colombia RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Children lost in the Amazon rescued after 40 days

The four children who had been sought for in the Amazon jungle for 40 days were found in Colombia.

The siblings, aged 13, 9, 4 and 1, were found amid an operation involving 150 soldiers and members of indigenous communities in the area.

The children had been missing since 1 May, when the small plane in which they were traveling with their mother crashed in the thick jungle of Guaviare.

The woman died in the crash, as did the pilot and another adult.

But the children managed to survive by eating cassava flour and wild fruits.

The protagonists of what many call a "miracle" are Lesly Jacobo Bonbaire, 13, and her siblings Soleiny, 9, Tien, 4, and Cristin, 1.

Media stress that their knowledge of the jungle, which they acquired as members of the indigenous Muinane community, helped them survive.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the finding last Friday and On Twitter, said it was a joy for the country and that the siblings were "an example of survival".

"They are the children of peace," Petro said on social media.
