Negotiations with the IMF RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Latam presidents call on Biden to help Argentina

Six Latin American presidents have asked Washington to support Argentina before the International Monetary Fund.

They did so in a letter to US President Joe Biden.

Gustavo Petro of Colombia, Lula da Silva of Brazil, Luis Arce of Colombia, Gabriel Boric of Chile, Mario Abdo Benítez of Paraguay and Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Mexico all signed the letter.

They urged Mr Biden to support the negotiations that Buenos Aires is pushing for with the IMF.

The Argentine government is looking for the Fund to relax the agreement signed in 2022 to pay off its debt of 44 billion dollars.

In their letter, Latin American leaders say that "the common and shared principles of democracy, human rights and social inclusion in the Americas should guide us to find a rapid and effective solution for Argentina".

And the message continues: "Argentina has asked the IMF for a review that will allow us to overcome the difficulties presented by this atypical year".

The heads of state refer to the impact of the war in Ukraine and above all to the worst drought in a century that has hit Argentina.
