Malvinas War soldiers RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

More remains identified in Darwin Cemetery

The remains of another Argentine soldier buried in Malvinas have been identified.

This is Corporal Jorge Eduardo López, of the Prefectura Naval, who died on 10 May 1982.

The identification is part of the project to give a name and surname to the graves in Darwin Cemetery marked with the legend "Argentine soldier known only to God".

Lopez enlisted as a volunteer to go to war, unbeknownst to his parents.

His sister Claudia, who was 14 years old at the time, provided the DNA sample that allowed the identification.

Ministry of Justice authorities notified her of the discovery last Friday, according to press reports.

The humanitarian project was agreed between Argentina, the UK and the International Red Cross in 2016.

There are now 121 graves that have been identified in Darwin.
