Economy Minister rules out resigning

Economy minister Sergio Massa ruled out resigning to focus on his presidential campaign.

He did so as he announced measures to deal with the consequences of this week's 22% peso devaluation.

In a TV interview, the candidate of the ruling coalition Unión por la Patria said: "It doesn't cross my mind to leave the ministry".

And he explained that it would do great harm to the stability of the country.

Massa will compete for the presidency on 22 October.

In last Sunday's primaries he was the second most voted candidate, behind libertarian Javier Milei.

As for Milei, yesterday he revealed that on Friday he will discuss his proposals with representatives of the International Monetary Fund.

These plans include the dollarisation of Argentina and a sharp cutback of the state.
