Colombia to renegotiate FTA with the US

Colombia begins to renegotiate its Free Trade Agreement with the United States.

This was announced Wednesday by Colombian President Gustavo Petro.

He explained that the review is due to the disadvantages resultig from the agreement signed 11 years ago.

According to Mr Petro, Colombian production sectors cannot compete with their American counterparts.

In a meeting with farmers, the President exemplified: "If I wanted to replace imported corn with Colombian corn, I would have 1,200,000 more jobs".

And he continued: "Why can't I do it? Because the Free Trade Agreement with the United States prohibits it”.
