January 8 Coup Attempt RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Seven police officers arrested in Brazil

In Brazil, seven police officers have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the coup attempt on 8 January.

Among the suspects is Kepler Goncalves, chief of police in the capital Brasilia.

The arrests were ordered by the Supreme Court, which is investigating the events that took place a week after the inauguration of President Lula da Silva.

On that day, thousands of people stormed the seats of the three branches of government in Brasilia.

They were supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro, who lost the election to Lula, denouncing fraud.

The judiciary suspects that Goncalves and other officers refrained from acting in the face of the revolt, in order to facilitate the overthrow of the new president.

It is worth remembering that Bolsonaro had broad support among the Armed and Security Forces.
