New variant Covid infections up in Argentina

In Argentina, Covid-19 infections continue to increase due to the spread of a new variant: JN.1.

According to official health sources, the number of cases hiked from 268 in the first week of January to 427 in the second week.

Consulted by the official news agency Télam, scientist Jorge Aliaga clarified that the increase is not "cause for concern".

But he remarked that it is important to sustain vaccination and keep in place preventive measures such as ventilation.

Most of the infections were recorded in the city of Buenos Aires, followed by the provinces of Santa Fe, Formosa, Chaco, Jujuy and Salta.

In this context, hospitalizations due to Covid increased, but physicians say that patients show mild symptoms.
