Argentina gets record debt swap

The Argentine government achieved a voluntary swap of 78% of its sovereign debt, a historic level, according to authorities.

The Ministry of Economy reported that this cleared maturities of almost 30 billion dollars, maturing between June and September.

According to details, for securities expiring in 2024 and 2025, financial institutions and 90% of the banks signed up.

The operation had the support of the International Monetary Fund, which yesterday revealed that it was working on a reformulation of its programme for Argentina.

This was reported from Washington by IMF spokeswoman Julie Kozak.

Recall that Buenos Aires and the Fund agreed on a plan in 2022 to pay off a debt of more than 40 billion dollars.

This balance arises from a loan granted to the government of former president Mauricio Macri in 2018.
