Argentina to host the U20 World Championship

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Argentina will host the World Youth Football Championship, to be held between 20 May and 11 June.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández celebrated the news on Twitter.

He said: "We will have the honor of hosting the national teams and of being able to share our culture and passion for football with fans from all over the world”.

The government also highlighted the economic movement that the U-20 World Cup will generate, which could reach 600 million dollars.

The cities hosting matches will be Mendoza, San Juan, La Plata and Santiago del Estero.

Due to ongoing local and continental tournaments, the stadiums in Buenos Aires will not be used for the youth championship.

Argentina's U20 team will participate as hosts, earning a place they missed out on in last summer's qualifiers.
