Argentina's inflation drops to single digits

Inflation in Argentina continues to drop and was in single digits on a monthly basis for the first time since last year.
The April index was 8.8% according to the latest report of INDEC, the official statistics agency.
Thus, the accumulated rate for the last 12 months was almost 290%.
In any case, the government celebrated the downward trend.
President Javier Milei published a photo on social networks with his Minister of Economy Luis Caputo celebrating the figure as if it were a goal in a football match.
For his part, pro-government congressman José Luis Espert highlighted that this administration "not only averted a hyperinflation but also brought it down to one digit in only five months".
The INDEC report also updated the poverty floor, which was set at almost 830 thousand pesos per month, about 800 dollars.
That amount is what a family of two adults and two children needs in order not to be poor.
On the same day that inflation figures were released, the Central Bank announced a new cut in the interest rate, which went down from 50% to 40% per year.
