First woman in the post RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Argentine appointed head of Global Weather Organization

Argentina’s Celeste Saulo was elected this Thursday in Geneva as Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organisation, and she’ll be the first woman and the first Latin American in the post.

Her bid was promoted by the Argentine government in June 2022.

Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero had praised Saulo, when promoting her candidacy.

“She inspires all our confidence" assured the official back then.

He also said the Argentine expert has “a general and integral vision, which also comes from a woman: the only female and Latin American candidate with a view of the global south".

The World Meteorological Organization comprises 193 Member States and territories.

It develops technical expertise and international cooperation in the fields of weather, climate, water and other environmental issues.

Saulo is a prestigious professor with a degree in Weather Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), who, in 1996, obtained a PhD from the UBA in the area of Atmospheric Sciences.

She has an extensive academic and teaching career, both in Argentina and abroad.
