At South American-African summit RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Argentine FM condemns British military presence

Argentina condemned British military presence in the South Atlantic and once again asserted its sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.

This was made in a statement by Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero at the 8th Summit of the ZPCAS bloc, which brings together Atlantic nations of South America and Africa.

At the meeting, which took place in Mindelo, Cape Verde, the Argentine official condemned the attitude of the United Kingdom.

This, he denounced, "is not in keeping with the times and current practices of multilateralism and international law".

Cafiero urged London to comply with United Nations resolutions calling for dialogue to resolve the dispute over the Malvinas Islands.

He also thanked the bi-continental group for its continued support for the call for a resumption of negotiations between Argentina and Britain over the Islands.

The Zone of Peace and Cooperation of the South Atlantic was founded in 1986 and brings together 24 South American and African coastal states.
