Argentina-Paraguay conflict RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Asunción normalizes Yacyretá shipments

Paraguay reestablished the delivery of energy to Argentina from the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam, decompressing the tension between the South American nations.

Buenos Aires agreed to pay a debt claimed by the Paraguayan government of US$100 million for electricity from the binational plant.

Each country is entitled to 50% of Yacyretá's production, but since Paraguay does not use all of this energy, it cedes the surplus to its neighbor.

But Asunción suspended shipments in retaliation for the toll that Argentina charges for navigating the Paraná River, the outlet for Paraguayan exports.

The Argentine government also agreed to review the fares paid to transit the so-called "waterway".
