After 30 years RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

BA-Mendoza train line reopened

After three decades, the railway line covering the 600-mile journey between Buenos Aires and Mendoza has been reactivated.

President Alberto Fernández led the ceremony for the reopening of the service in the city of Palmira, on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

In this context, the president highlighted the role of trains for "Argentina to become more federal".

Mr Fernández condemned the decision to privatise and reduce Argentina's railway network in the 1990s, which he said "disintegrated the country".

The connection between the Retiro terminal in Buenos Aires and Palmira will start with a weekly frequency.

Tickets are much cheaper than bus or plane tickets: a seat costs 3500 pesos (less than 10 dollars).

A cabin, meanwhile, costs 11,000 pesos or approximately 28 dollars.
