Milei accused of "financial terrorism" RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Blue dollar rate tops 1000 pesos

The free or "blue" dollar rate surpassed the 1000 pesos barrier for the first time this Tuesday.

The rise came after candidate Javier Milei, the most voted in the August primaries, advised savers to withdraw their money from banks.

The hopeful of La Libertad Avanza party also described the Argentine currency, the peso, as "excrement" in an interview.

The libertarian's statements were repudiated by a wide range of political sectors, from the ruling party to the opposition.

In a communiqué, several banking entities strongly criticized Milei and one of them, the Banking Association, stated that it was an act of "financial terrorism".

To all this, the Minister of Economy and ruling party candidate Sergio Massa pointed to "four or five speculators who are behind the escalation".

In a meeting with businesspeople, he warned, "until I do not see them in jail, I will not stop".

Candidate Patricia Bullrich, of conservative coalition Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change), repudiated Milei but also criticized Massa.

In a public statement, she asserted that the minister "is leading us to hyperinflation", while the libertarian is an irresponsible person who encourages a run.
