Chile to define president between the far right and the left

The elections in Chile left an extremely polarised scenario ahead of the run-off of December 19 between two very opposed candidates: on the one hand, far-right José Antonio Kast that got 28 percent of the vote, and left-wing Gabriel Boric, with 25 percent.

Both come from parties that are new in the Chilean political arena, mainly dominated by two coalitions since the restoration of democracy in 1990. Kast's party was born in June 2019 and the Frente Amplio coalition that Boric founded was created in January 2017.
