"A political business" - Adorni RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Government bans inclusive language in the State

The national government will ban inclusive or "non-sexist" language throughout the national public administration.

This was informed by presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni in a press conference this Tuesday.

"It will not be possible to use the letter e, the @, and the x, and the inclusion of feminine in State documents will have to be avoided," the spokesman detailed.

In addition, said Adorni: "we consider that gender perspectives have been used as a business of politics".

Inclusive language has been promoted for several years by different human rights and feminist groups, among others.

It aims at avoiding that the masculine gender also represents the feminine one, by replacing the letter "o" with "e".

In this way, we say "niñes" for both sexes, instead of "niños" as it is traditionally used in Spanish.

Another way is to always mention both genders: "boys and girls", "male and female workers", and so on.

Non-sexist language also enables the feminization of nouns and thus some terms such as "cuerpa" appeared.

But its critics, such as Milei's government, consider that it is a deformation of the language and maintain that only the forms approved by the Real Academia Española are valid.

The measure announced by Adorni extends the one already adopted by the Ministry of Defense this week.

In the Armed Forces the use of terms such as "sargenta", "caba" or "soldada" was prohibited a few days back.
