Peace talks in Colombia RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Government resumes dialogue with ELN

The Colombian government and the guerrilla ELN, National Liberation Army, resume peace talks.

Based in Mexico, the dialogue is resuming after an interruption of almost four years.

The first objective of these efforts is to reach a ceasefire and then discuss the incorporation of the citizenry in the process.

Negotiations are part of the "total peace" plan, one of President Gustavo Petro's campaign promises.

The Head of State seeks to replicate with the ELN the agreement that achieved in 2016 the demobilization of the once largest guerrilla group in Colombia: the FARC.
