At the 28th edition of the meeting, which took place in the Dominican Republic, attending leaders signed a document on the sovereignty issue.

In a special communiqué on the Malvinas affair, they reaffirmed the need to resume negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

They also called for dialogue to be conducted within the framework of the UN resolutions on the dispute.

The summit’s communiqué also urges London to refrain from taking unilateral decisions on Malvinas natural resources.

Such actions, the text points out, "do nothing to contribute to reaching a definitive solution to the territorial dispute".

Ibero-American leaders also highlighted Argentina's "permanent constructive attitude and willingness" to negotiate with London.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández thanked his Latin American, Caribbean, Spanish and Portuguese peers meeting in the Dominican capital, Santo Domingo, for their support.
