Energy Independence RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Key pipeline inaugurates on Sunday

Sunday will see the inauguration of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline, the project that will change Argentina's energy matrix.

The pipeline will connect the Vaca Muerta field in Patagonia with the most populated areas in the east of the country.

It will save billions of dollars in fuel imports for thermal power plants, officials say.

The formal inauguration will be in Salliqueló, Buenos Aires province, headed by President Alberto Fernández.

He will be accompanied by Vice President CFK and Economy Minister Sergio Massa, recently launched as the ruling party's presidential candidate.

The date of the opening is no coincidence: 9 July is Argentina's Independence Day.

The pipeline, according to the government, will give the country "energy independence".

It is more than 570 kilometers long and starts in Tratayén, in the province of Neuquén.

This is where Vaca Muerta, one of the world's largest shale gas reserves, is located.
