Opposition's Cornejo wins in Mendoza

Opposition candidate Alfredo Cornejo won the elections and will once again become governor of the province of Mendoza, after his first term between 2015 and 2019.

The candidate of the center-right alliance Juntos para el Cambio (Together for Change) won with 39.5% of the votes.

In second place, with almost 30%, was Omar de Marchi, of conservative party La Unión Mendoza.

Cornejo celebrated the victory with the presidential candidate of his party, Patricia Bullrich.

The governor-elect asked to vote for the former Minister of Security, and called on Argentines to bet "for a safe change".

The presidential vote will be held on October 22 and Bullrich's main rivals will be the pro-government Sergio Massa and the libertarian Javier Milei, according to the polls.

Regarding Massa, the Minister of Economy revealed at a rally that, if he is President, he will call other political forces to integrate a "government of national unity".
