Exclusive Interview with Telam RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

"World War in bits" - Pope Francis

Pope Francis gave an exclusive interview to Argentine state news agency, Télam.

Journalist Bernarda Llorente, Télam’s head, spoke with the Pontiff at the Vatican about several current issues.

In that context, Jorge Bergoglio explained "since the end of World War II until now there have been wars everywhere".

"This led me to say that we are living a World War in bits" elaborated the leader of the Catholic Church.

On the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Pope expressed: "terrorism and war do not lead to any solution, but only to the death and suffering of so many innocents."

While recognizing Israel's right to defend itself, he said he was very concerned "about the total siege in which Gaza’s Palestines live, where there are also many innocent victims".

In the interview, the Bishop of Rome also warned about what he called "people charmers" who end up "drowning" people.

The Pope pointed to what he defined as "instant redeemers" and remarked: "There is only one Messiah...the rest are all clowns of messianism".

And he regretted that this type of unique thinking "banishes human richness".

He also defended labor rights against political movements and candidates who want to eliminate them.

"When a worker has no rights or is hired for a short time only to be discarded, without paying any contributions, they become a slave and one is transformed into an executioner," said the Pontiff.

"Executioner is not only the one who kills a person, but also the one who exploits a person," Francis remarked.

He also revealed: "I am not a communist as some say. The Pope follows the Gospel".

He also acknowledged that Argentina is one of his main pending destinations, considering he hasn't traveled to his native country since his papacy began in 2013.

In the dialogue with Llorente, the Pontiff also spoke about the challenges of Artificial Intelligence, cultural identity and reforms in the Catholic Church, among other topics.
